These two keep finding each other. Cleveland and Tampa Bay closed last week with three straight meetings, and the Guardians took two — a 7-3 blowout on Oct. 13, a 3-1 stumble the next day, then a 3-2 edge on Oct. 15. Now they meet again at Progressive Field, with Cleveland on a W-L-W run and the Rays countering at L-W-L.

Head to head

The bigger picture, though, leans Tampa Bay's way. The Rays have won five of the last eight meetings, including a 3-0 shutout and an 11-3 rout back in July. Every Cleveland win in that span has come by a tight margin.

Watchlist
  • Steven Kwan's discipline — 84 walks and a .382 on-base — against a Rays staff anchored by Shane McClanahan's 106 strikeouts in 118 innings.
  • Jonathan Aranda's power, 22 homers and 92 RBIs, testing a Guardians side that has kept every recent win to slim margins.
  • The form mirror: Cleveland's W-L-W versus Tampa Bay's L-W-L, all three games against each other.
