Forty-three saves. That is what Nikita Boyarkin delivered in the Admiral Vladivostok net as the home side absorbed a 47-shot bombardment from Barys Astana at Fetisov Arena and still won 5-4 with just 23 shots of their own. On this night, volume was not verdict.
Barys started fastest. Asanali Sarkenov struck at minute 6 off Alikhan Asetov's assist, Logan Day doubled the lead at minute 9 via Jake Massie, and it took Danila Moiseyev, fed by Libor Sulak, at minute 12 to get Admiral moving at 1-2. The second period turned into a sprint: Daniel Usmanov equalised at minute 22 from Ivan Muranov, Alikhan Omirbekov snapped back for Barys inside the same minute with Arkady Shestakov assisting, 2-3, Konstantin Luchevnikov levelled again at minute 34 thanks to Artyom Pimenov, and Borna Rendulic sent the home side in front 4-3 at minute 40 off Dmitry Zavgorodniy.
The third period was a scrap. Seven minors were handed out there, part of 11 across the match, and Barys levelled through Justin Bailey at minute 52, assisted by Chase Priskie. Admiral went 1/4 on the power play, Barys 1/5, one conversion each. Then, at minute 58, defenceman Grigory Vashchenko took Oskar Bulavchuk's pass and buried the winner, 5-4.
Boyarkin was the wall: 43 saves against 47 Barys shots, the reason a 23-shot Admiral offence left with the win. Pimenov finished with a goal and two assists, Sulak with two assists and a plus-3, Luchevnikov with a goal, an assist and 4 penalty minutes, and Vashchenko's goal-and-assist night from the blue line carried the decisive weight.
Barys took aim 47 times. Admiral won the argument anyway.
