AI SPORTSANALYTICSTrailing 1-3, Detroit scored at 45 and 59 minutes to force overtime at Little Caesars Arena — then won it 4-3.

Outshot 27-34. Trailing 1-3 deep into the third period. Detroit still left Little Caesars Arena with the win, 4-3 after overtime, despite San Jose owning the shot clock for most of the night.
The first period delivered everything except separation. Justin Faulk struck first at 13, set up by Michael Rasmussen, and Dmitry Orlov levelled at 18 off Macklin Celebrini's feed — 1-1 at the intermission. In between, the whistle never stopped: five penalties in the period, including matching five-minute majors for Barclay Goodrow and Keegan Kolesar at 17. The second period brought one goal and four more penalties, Celebrini putting San Jose ahead at 25 from Michael Kesselring.
Then came the stretch that decided the night. Ivar Stenberg stretched the lead to 1-3 at 43, again with Celebrini involved. Detroit answered within two minutes, Emmitt Finnie cutting it to 2-3 at 45 with Moritz Seider assisting. The Red Wings kept pushing, and Alex DeBrincat tied it at 59 off Viktor Arvidsson's setup — 3-3, and overtime. Detroit then had to kill a penalty of their own, Andrew Copp sitting two minutes at 63, before wrapping up the 4-3 win after overtime.
Celebrini did everything but win it. One goal, two assists, seven shots, plus-1 — a hand in all three San Jose goals — and still on the wrong side of the result. Stenberg added a goal and an assist in defeat. For Detroit, Finnie finished with a goal and an assist, Seider with two assists, John Gibson stopped 31 shots, and Alex Nedeljkovic made 24 saves at the other end.
Twelve penalties, thirty suspension minutes, six goals — and the team that got outshot by seven took the extra point.
